UNLUCKY TANG JUST PIPPED FOR CAMOGIE TITLE AT FIRST ATTEMPT.

Whitehall N.S. 3 – 01 Tang N.S. 1- 01

Lady luck certainly did not smile on the girls from Tang N.S. when they took on Whitehall

N.S. in the final of the Camogie “B” competition. Appearing in their first ever final, the girls from south Westmeath dominated for much of the game but were unable to convert their chances.

After team captain Aishling Corrigan had pointed Whitehall in front from a “30”, Tang took the game to their opponents and their star performer, Lorraine Duncan was unlucky to see a succession of efforts drift the wrong side of the upright.

Against the run of play, Whitehall struck for a goal when Jenny Brady unhinged the Tang defence. The winners, who had reached the final two years ago, took that narrow lead into the half time break.

Two mins into the second half, Whitehall struck for a second goal when a shot by Faye Montgomery was deflected past a helpless Aislinn Mackey. Tang captain Siobhan Farrell, who had an excellent game, opened her side’s account from a “30” and after Lorraine Duncan kicked a ball to the Whitehall net, the stage was set for a ding dong finish.

The Whitehall goal lived a charmed life as Tang came in search of the equaliser but with just a minute remaining on the clock, Whitehall lifted the siege and , after Jenny Brady shot narrowly wide, Faye Montgomery popped up to fire home her second goal to ensure victory for Whitehall.
