Post date: Oct 28, 2012 12:24:10 AM

Maryland/Tang played St Lomans on their home patch in St lomans in the first round of the u-21championship on Saturday last. Lomans started the game brightly kicking two pts but Maryland/Tang found the loman's net when their defence failed to deal with a high ball into the square and Willie Flanagan jumped highest to fist the ball to the net. This appeared to awaken

Maryland/Tang who took over the match for large periods of the first despite playing into a stiff breeze. Pts from Christy Grimes and a brace from Calum Mc Cormack who was unlucky to see his shot sail over the bar but Maryland/Tang were happy to lead 1-5 to 0-4.

Maryland/Tang opened the scoring with Fergus Farrell bursting through from midfield to kick a fine pt. further pts from Calum Mc Cormack appeared to seal the match but Lomans threw caution to the wind and laid siege on Maryland/Tang's goal and were rewarded with a goal five mins from time and then drew level with an excellent pt. Maryland/Tang did have two chances to kick a winner but it was not to be and Sean Carroll blew the full time whistle.

Maryland/Tang elected to play with the breeze in the first period of extra time and indeed laid the foundation for this well deserved victory with Martin Rock kicking three pts and Willie Flanagan adding another and on the stroke of halftime, Enda Kincaid finished superbly to the net to lead 1-4 to 0-0 at the break.

Lomans did throw everything at Maryland/Tang but could only reduce the lead to five pts and were unlucky to see a shot crash off the crossbar which would have a nail biting finish.

Maryland/Tang had excellent performers with Chris Conner, Christy Grimes, John and Martin Rock, Fergus Farrell, Calum McCormack and Enda Kincaid and look forward to a meeting with Mullingar Shamrocks shortly.
