Tang and Maryland togged out on sun the 5th last, to play the 2011 GALVIN CUP final.
Delayed until now due to a fixture backlog and bad weather late in last years season.
Conditions at joe fox memorial park were heavy under foot with constant misty rain and a light breeze.
Tang under the watchful eye of new manager paul conway got off to the livelier start with aiden burke
coming close to getting off the mark in the first minute .In fact it was a nice pass from aiden two
minutes later to team mate martin rock who put the first point on the score board.
Aiden then got his own name on the score sheet with a well taken free after joint captain naill bannon was fouled.
Maryland had their first attempt on the tang goal with ten minutes gone only to kick wide after some good work
in the build up.This seemed to settle maryland and both anthony and damien reyonalds then kicked fine points from
play. The momentum then seemed to swing tangs way again with aiden burke scoring twice within three minutes,
the first a free and then from play involving good work from midfield with joe conlon and dermot bannon playing
their part.On the twentieth minute another tang attack but the final attack dropped harmlessly into the great full
arms of maryland keeper lee moran who then started a good move right up the field to damien reynolds who
pointed. From the kick out joe conlon won the ball offloaded to dean reddin who in turn found martin rock
who controlled well turned and passed to naill bannon who turned under pressure and managed to squeeze
the ball in at the bottom of the maryland post.
Both teams were guilty of some bad wides after this then on the twenty fifth minute tang center back
robert english found himself inside the maryland back line on the end of a sublime pass from martin rock
only for the ball to escape his grasp at the vital moment much to the relief of the maryland supporters
at the dressing room end.Martin rock added a point a few minnuites later and this was more or less the last action of the half.
The secound half got off to a blistering start with tang rewarded with a fourteen yard free after the maryland keeper
over carried after great tackling from naill neary making (his senior debut) whitch was dispatched by top scorer aiden burke.
Naill grabbed a point shortly after for himself. Then in the fifth minute trevor farrell saw red after an awkward tackle on dermot
bannon.Maryland upped things after this and damien reyonolds scored two points from play and one from a free.
Again both teams were guilty of missing handy scores in the next ten minutes until naill neary pointed after picking up a loose
ball after the mary land keeper was disspossed trying to clear his line after relentless pressure from the hard working tang full forward line.Maybe as legs tired and concentration slipped both joe conlon and robert english tang and David martin maryland
picked up unnecessary yellow cards. Both teams traded points after this with aiden burke accounting for two and david martin
getting one. With a few minutes remaning maryland increased the effort pointing a free and lee moran saving well from
a dean reddin effort , maryland again built an attack from their keeper that would see maryland number ten john reilly
raise the green flag at the tang goal.Their tails up now maryland pushed hard and just before the final whistle David martin pointed only for tang to hold out and win by two points.
Joint captains naill bannon and alan higgins then received the michael galvin cup from T.j GALVIN to the cheers of all the supporters
who attended the game.
