Tang v Moate

Tang made the short trip to Tubberclair for their clash with Moate in the the third round of the Intermediate Championship last Wednesday evening.

Tang took advantage of the perfect conditions to play some great football in the first half, quickly opening up a four points to one lead through points from three Aidan Burke points and one from Martin Rock Tang continued to pile on the pressure and a raking Niall Neary pass found Alan Higgins who dispatched to the net.Tang continued their domination with Sean Egan and Trevor English in fine form at midfield. Further points from Aidan Burke and Martin Rock left Tang leading by a wide margin before a excellent move saw Robert English put Martin Rock through for Tang's second goal. Moate responded with a couple of points but Niall Neary and Trevor English cancelled these out. Tang led at half time by 2-9 to 0-3.

Moate came out int the second half looking for a quick response a got it through a well taken goal. Tang cancelled out this goal with points from Aidan Burke, Trevor English and Aidan Burke. However two quick fire goals from Moate reduced to lead to just six points. Martin Rock kicked two vital points to relieve the pressure at this stage and Tang managed to see out the game with the final score reading 2-16 to 3-07.

This was a good performance from Tang in the first half in particular and gives us two more points in the championship.

Tang v Ballynacargy

Tang took on Ballynacargy in the championship in Athlone on Saturday evening.

Tang played with the aid of the stiff breeze and duly took advantage of these conditions. Points from Aidan Burke and John and Martin Rock opened up a four point to one lead. Tang went further ahead through two more points each from John Rock and Aidan Burke before Kieran Duncan made a great goal line clearance to prevent Ballynacargy getting a much needed goal. Both teams traded points to leave the half time score at reading nine points to two in Tang's favour.

Ballynacargy quickly used the wind advantage to tag back a couple of points but Martin Rock swung a great point over the bar to keep Tang six points ahead. Alan Higgins got on the end of a great move to fire over the bar before Aidan Burke curled over a score with his left foot. Ballynacargy didn't give up hope and reduced the lead again before John Rock got his fourth point of the game. Ballynacargy threw everything at Tang and with the last kick of the game got the goal they desperately needed however it was just too late. The final score read 13 points to 1-9.

This win leaves us Tang with four wins from four and puts us through to the semi final with a game to spare.

Tang v Rosemount

Tang took on Rosemount in the long awaited second round of the Intermediate Championship. Hogan Park in Moate played host to the high intensity game.

Tang had the better of the opening exchanges taking the lead through an Aidan Burke free before Martin Rock fired over his first point of the game. Rosemount responded with a free of their own before Aidan Burke tagged on the points to open up a three point lead for Tang. Michael Galvin pulled off an excellent save during this period to prevent Rosemount getting a goal. Rosemount did respond with three points to level the game. However some excellent defending from Kieran Duncan, Dean Reddin and John Rock prevented Rosemount from taking the lead. Just before half time a free flowing move allowed Martin Rock to turn his marker and curl over a point with his left foot. This left the half time score at Tang 0-5 Rosemount 0-4.

Tang came out of the blocks flying in the second half and Trevor English popped over a point before a searing run from Fergus Farrell resulted in Aidan Burke tapping over a free. Tang opening up a six point gap when an excellent pass from Niall Neary picked out Martin Rock who turned his man and slipped the ball across to Aidan Burke who slipped the ball under the keeper. Aidan Burke cancelled out a Rosemount point with a well taken free. Rosemount however got on top after this and scored a goal and two points in quick succession to leave the minimum margin between the teams. Alan Higgins set up Martin Rock for a much needed point. Rosemount again closed the gap to just one point. Tang defended stoutly with Robert English, John Rock and Sean Coughlan among others keeping Tang ahead. Robert English broke high ball into the square down to Martin Rock who fired over from a near impossible angle. Niall Neary capped an impressive performance with a fine point which sealed victory for Tang.

The final score read Tang 1-11 Rosemount 1-8.

This was a good team performance and hopefully stands them in good stead for the upcoming games.
