Tang 1-9 Tyrrellspass 0-12

Tang played Tyrrellspass in the second round of the league. This was Tang’s first home game with the throw in at 11.30am on a pleasant morning for football. Tang played into the dressing room end aided with a stiff breeze. Tang opened the scoring a neat pt from Niall Neary. Tyrrellspass equalised before Martin Rock broke a tackle and kicked a pt. Tyrrellspass added another. The game continued in this vein with both teams exchanging pts with Tang’s Sean Coughlan and Martin Rock. Tang opened a gap when Niall Neary flicked on a centre from Martin Rock, to the waiting Niall Bannon. Niall stepped back inside two defenders and shot low to the corner of the net to score the match’s only goal. Tang lead now stood 1-4 to 0-4. More scores were exchanged with John Rock’s shot sailing over the bar for what could have been a goal. Tang were on top at this critical stage and were guilty of squandering or over playing the ball on couple occasions when more goal chance went a begging. Tang took a 4pt lead into the break 1-7 to 0-6.

Tang were on the defensive for much of the second half but still opened their scoring with a pt from Martin Rock. Tyrrellspass responded with a pt but were finding it hard to break down a resolute Tang defence. Ten minutes into the half, Tyrrellspass lost their fullback for a high tackle on Martin Rock. Tang came under severe pressure with Tyrrellspass picking off pts. Tang had one terrific move and a chance to stretch the lead to two when they completely opened up Tyrrellspass but a sloppy last pass let Tyrrellspass off the hook and with a last minute free, Denis Glennon kicked a monstrous free to draw the teams level. Tang will be disappointed to lose the two points but their inability to win a kickout in the last ten minutes proved their downfall but will take heart from a solid performance against one of the top teams. Best for Tang were Dean Reddin, Robert English and Sean Egan in defence, Conor Marlow and Darragh Burke won their share in the first half, while up front Martin Rock was a constant thorn and Niall Bannon were the pick of the forwards.Team.
