Tang 1-8 Athlone 3-5
Tang started this game looking for their third League win and at half-time prospects looked good leading by 3pts with a strong breeze aiding Tang in the second half. This is not how the match unfolded with Athlone upping their game and looking very strong. Tang started the game kicking 3pts to Athlone’s one. A high centre was broken down by Sean Egan and Niall Bannon was on hand and he finished superbly to the net. Tang’s advantage was short lived when Athlone’s Mickey Green lobbed Tang goalie Michael Galvin for a well taken goal. Tang’s respond was a brace of pts from Aidan Burke and Sean Egan to lead at the interval 1-6 to 1-3.
Athlone’s dominance early in the second half resulted 1-2 without reply. Tang suffered a major blow when Trevor English received a black card. Tang drew level with two pts but Athlone held the upper hand and soon got the all important score, a goal after an excellent move throughout the field. Athlone’s defence ably dealt with any threats Tang offered and were good value for a deserved victory. Tang welcomed back Kieran Duncan and Chris Connor to action. Conor Marlow, Robert English and John Rock were best in defence, Trevor English was sorely missed at midfield in the second half and Dean Reddin and Sean Egan, Aidan Burke and Martin Rock were pick of the forwardsTeam Michael Galvin, Christopher McCann Alan Murray, Conor Marlow, John Rock, Robert English (Capt),Sean Coughlan, Trevor English, Kieran Duncan, Niall Bannon, Dean Reddin, Alan Higgins, Martin Rock, Aidan Burke, ,Sean Egan, hris Connor, William Flanagan, Ian Coughlan, Darragh Burke, Lee Coughlan, Martin Donoghue
