Tang 2-10 Ballynacargy 2-8

Galvin cup Sun 1st April TANG V BALLYNACARGY

Tang and Ballynacargy togged out on Sunday in the latest round of the Galvin cup.The weather was warm and dry for the time of year and the pitch was in excellent order.

Both teams got off to a lively start with players on both sides trying to impress as championship is in a few weeks .Ballynacargy scored the first point of the game on three minutes. The game ebbed and flowed but it was Tang that had the best of the possession in the next ten mins but this was not converted into scores with Aidan Burke and Martin Rock missing on a few occasions. Ballynacargy scored their next point on thirteen mins with some nice play from full forward Dwane Magher . On the kick out Tang moved the ball quickly down the left hand side with Chris McCann and Sean Coughlan involved the play, then switched to the centre where Colm Conlon won the pass only to be fouled just outside the 21. Aidan Burke stepped up found his range and made no mistake this time. Ballynacargy came again and pointed from a free with Magher being their main marks man . Shortly after this Tang keeper Micheal Galvin was called into action with a smart save from the Ballynacargy corner forward. Aidan added two more points then Martin Rock scored a fantastic goal after a twenty metre jinking run that beat at least four defenders before rocketing the ball to the roof of the net. Ballynacargy and Tang added one apiece to bring the score at the half TANG 1.03 BALLYNACARRIGY 0.03

Ballynacargy started the second half with two points inside five mins ,Niall Bannon and Aidan responded with two points from play. Tang management made a few changes at this time with Dean Reddin on for Colm Mackey, John Rock for Chris Connor and Eamon Carey for Chris McCann. At this stage Tang seemed to be well in control with Niall Neary and Aidan opening up a nice lead but Ballynacargy kept working and chipped another point off the deficit. Then Joe Conlon won a high ball in the middle of the park and immediately rifled the ball to Martin Rock who on the twenty one line seemed no real threat but on turning his man and gaining a few extra feet towards goal fired a blistering shoot that left the keeper stranded and settled nicely in the back of the net . If Tang thought this contest was over they could,tn be more wrong ballynacargy attacked from the kick out and gave as good as they got in all sections of the pitch.and on twenty five min,s were rewarded much to the dismay of the tang players and supporters with a penalty .This was dispatched clinically and this rose the ballynacargy team and supporters and less than five mins later they had the ball in the tang net again as they stormed the tang back line in numbers . A draw seemed to be on the cards at this stage but in the last three mins Tang's two high performance marksmen steeped up . Martin Rock scored a fine left foot point from play and then Aidan Burke scored one of the best points seen taken in Tang this year, a sideline from about the twenty one on the stand side. Kicked high curling and with confidence between the Ballynacargy posts to finish this contest.

Ballynacargy played some good football and in fairness never gave up on the game at any time. Thanks to the players and mentors for a fine game.

And so Tang move onto their next opponents in their bid to retain the Galvin Cup.

Congrats to Tang N.S who won their schoolboy semi-final against a strong Curraghmore team. Tang played

their semi-final at home in Tang and although starting sluggish, they eventually got on top at the end of the first half. Tang showed their experience and opened up a six pt lead and with Curraghmore throwing the kitchen sink at them , a resolute Tang defence stood firm and held on for a sweet victory. So congrats to Mike and mentors and best of luck in final which shall take place in May. details later.

Congratulations also to Tang N.S girls teams who were also victorious against Coralstown in the Quaterfinal. Tang led from start to finish and surely will meet stiffer oppostion in the upcoming semi-final. Well done to Noreen and mentors and hopefully we will have two finalists shortly.
