Tang 2-15 Milltownpass 1-10

Tang got their championship right back on track with an eight pt victory over a fancied Milltownpass side in Tubberclair on Sunday last. Tang elected to play with advantage of breeze in first half and started brightly opening the scoring with an excellent pt from the youthful Adam Neary. Milltownpass replied with a pt and both sides traded pts with Martin Rock and Adam Neary on the score sheet for Tang. Tang were enjoying a lot of possession at this stage with Trevor English in fine form and Niall Bannon outstanding at midfield. Niall Neary added another pt before a high centre was fielded by Niall Bannon to dispatch to the net for Tang’s opening goal. Tang’ s half forwards Martin Rock and Niall Neary were a constant threat and created many openings with their probing runs. Darragh Burke then caught and turned, kicking a nice pt from distance to open a five pt lead. Tang were guilty then of squandering a couple of easy chances and Milltownpass took encouragement and reduced the lead to a goal kicking three pts in a row but Tang pulled away further with pts from Niall Bannon after frees on Martin Rock and Lee Coughlan. However just before the interval Milltownpass broke through the Tang defence to score an all important goal. Chris Connor after being through by Trevor English fired over the crossbar with the goal at his mercy and Tang took a three pt lead in at the break 1-9 to 1-6.

Tang faced into the breeze in the second half but played some lovely controlled football and gradually picked off pts through Adam Neary and Niall Bannon to extend the lead to 1-12 to 1-6. Milltownpass were finding it hard to break into the Tang half with Kieran Duncan and John Rock in fine form ably assisted by Chris Connor. Both sides traded pts before Tang struck for their second goal to kill off the match. A fine movement ended with Niall Bannon’s shot being been saved but the ever dangerous Adam Neary was alert and finished coolly from an acute angle. Tang will be much happier with this display led by Captain Robert English and his troops who all put in a much improved performance since last week. Team Michael Galvin, Dean Reddin, Robert English, Sean Egan, John Rock, Kieran Duncan,Chris Conner, Niall Bannon,Trevor English, Lee Coughlan, Niall Neary, Martin Rock, Willie Flanagan, Darragh Burke, Adam Neary, Tang now play neighbours Tubberclair in the next round the weekend after next.

Tang 1-8 Shandonagh 1-18

Tang played Shandonagh in the first round of the Intermediate Championship on Sunday last in Ballymore. The Ballymore grounds looked in magnificent conditions on a warm, sunny Sunday and the conditions were perfect for football. Tang opened the scoring after 3 mins with a well taken pt from Adam Neary. Shandonagh settled and drew level. Shandonagh gained the upper hand at midfield and with their half backs attacking, soon stretched their lead to 4pts to 1pt. Tang finished an excellent movement to the net through the boot of Willie Flanagan to draw level. This was a short reprieve as Shandonagh quickly regained the lead. Tang replied with a Martin Rock pt and Adam Neary picked up a loose ball to kick another pt to narrow the gap 0-8 to 1-3. Shandonagh piled on the pressure in the last 6mins kicking five unanswered pts to take a commanding 13pts to 1-3 at the break.

Tang started the second half with Robert English switched to midfield and attacked Shandonagh but made little headway against a tough Shandonagh defence. Tang did score through John Rock and Adam Neary but Shandonagh were still picking of pts. Willie Flanagan was narrowly wide for a goal chance and Niall Bannon crashed a shot off the crossbar from distance. This was as good as it got for Tang and although Dean Reddin and Adam Neary added consolation pts, it was Shandonagh’s day as they finished a sweeping move to the back of the Tang net. Tang Team Michael Galvin, Ian Coughlan, Robert English, Sean Egan, Kieran Duncan, Niall Bannon, Lee Coughlan, John Rock, Trevor English, Tommy Lennon, Willie Flanagan, Niall Neary, Darragh Burke, Martin Rock, Adam Neary, subs used, Chris Conner, Dean Reddin. Tang now have a week before they face Milltownpass in Tubberclair on Sunday evening next July 30th.
