TANG 2-12 MULLINGAR SHAMROCKS 0-6
Tang played Mullingar Shamrocks in Springfield in the long awaited Division 7 final on Sunday Jan 16th and came away with a well deserved victory.
Despite the recent, heavy inclement weather, the pitch was in very good condition.Mullingar Shamrocks started very well, and with a breeze on their backs soon had a couple of points on the scoreboard. Tang opened their scoring with a Martin Rock free kick. However Mullingar Shamrocks were winning a lot of possesion and soon had stretched their lead to 0-5 to 0-1. However Tang got their break when a quick through ball from Greg Carey beat the Mullingar Shamrocks defence and Owen Coughlan won the race to toe poke the ball past the helpless goalie. Tang built on this straight away to add two excellent pts from Trevor English with Martin Rock doing the spadework. Martin added another himself before the break and this left Tang taking a one pt lead into the interval 1-4 to 0-6.
Tang now started the second half with a stiff breeze on their backs and soon stretched their lead with more pts from Martin Rock and Trevor English. Mullingar Shamrocks tried to built attacks , but these proved slow and cumbersome making little headway into a strong Tang defence with Aaron Elliot always to the fore, tightly marking Mullingar Shamrocks danger man. Eamon Carey added a pt after crashing a goal chance against the upright and John Rock then finished off an excellant move with brother supplying a sublime crossfield pass. The match was put beyond all doubt when John Rock got a vital touch to a Trevor English 45.This was a strong Tang performance and a deserved victory for this group of players.
