Tang 2-6 Shandonagh 1-10
Tang played Shandonagh in the Div2 final in Cusack Park on Friday evening last. Tang started the match in whirl wind fashion with Adam Neary gathering a ball on the wing and slicing through the Shandonagh defence to blast the ball to the net. Two mins later Martin Rock fielded a high ball and slid the ball to Shane Coughlan to shoot into an empty net. Disaster struck then when our Captain and talisman Niall Bannon was stretchered off after a high dangerous tackle. John Tumelty kicked an excellent pt with Adam Neary firing over another for Tang to lead by 8pts. Shandonagh had a dominant spell kicking 3pts before Martin Rock slotted a free after good work by Shane Coughlan. Tang led 2-3 to 4pts at half time. Shandonagh started the second half with two quick pts. Shane Coughlan played Martin Rock in with a terrific pass and Martin was unlucky to see his shot drift over the bar. Shandonagh were awarded a hotly disputed penalty which they despatched to narrow the lead to a pt after 13mins .Niall Neary and Martin Rock added pts but Shandonagh equalised with time just up. Deep in injury time Shandonagh were awarded a dubious free on the 45m line and to add insult to injury the free was moved to the 21 m line which Shandonagh kicked to claim victory. Tang won’t be happy with the three major decisions going against them but now must regroup and focus on the upcoming championship. John Rock, Kieran Duncan and Robert English were superb in defence with Adam Neary, Shane Coughlan and Martin Rock to the fore upfront. We wish Niall Bannon a speedy recovery.
