TANG 4-7 ARDNAGRATH 2-5
Tang NS girls went into the final as favourites after winning all their qualifying matches but were made to fight all the way against a very resilient Ardnagrath team. Tang started attacking from the start and were soon rewarded with a goal from Chloe Duffy, much to delight of a large contigent of tang supporters. Ardnagrath did reply with a well taken goal but Tang goaled again from the boot of Ciara Fox to further stretch ther lead. Ardnagrath replied with another goal and were unlucky not to score another with the final pass intercepted by Sarah Horan. Tang took a three pt lead into the break.
Ardnagrath laid seige on Tang's goal and almost scored a goal only for the brilliance of Tang's goalie Rebecca Leavy. Tang lifted the siege and scored a goal through Ciara O Neill and from then on Tang were in the driving seat, with Chloe Prendergast and Niamh Hanley kicking some excellant pts. Aishling McCormack and Ciara Fox took over at midfield and with Tang's backs Caoimhe O Toole , Sarah Horan and Chloe Duffy in great form, there was no way back for a gallant Ardnagrath team. Ciara O Neill finished another move with a thundering shot to the roof of the net
to leave Tang running out deserving winners and thus made history bringing the first Schoolgirls title to Tang S.
Tang School Boys added their School's title by blitzing Mount Temple in the final yesterday
TANG 8-18 MOUNT TEMPLE 1-7
Tang N.S boys completed a memorable double when they overcame the challenge of Mount Temple.
When the two teams met in an earlier round, Tang had to come back from a ten pt deficit to win by a mere two pts, so this final promised to be a very close encounter. Anyone who had the privilege to be in Cusack park on Thursday last witnessed a terrific display of gaelic football from these young footballers from Tang.
From the throw in Tang blitzed Mount Temple with a barrage of scores with John Tumelty and Conall McKieran providing the forward line lead magnicently by captain Shane Coughlan who was a constant thorn in Mount Temple’s defence. Mount Temple had no answer for this rampant Tang team where Tommy Lennon was masterful in defence bringing the game to Mount temple at all times, indeed kicking several pts. Jason Coughlan was rock solid at full back, ably assisted by a splendid Richard Laffan with the hard working Keelan Galvin directing operations in the half back line. Tang led at the break 4-15 to 1-2 although Patrick Conlon saved a certain goal with a terrific brave block just before the break.
Tang keep up the momentum in the second half with Cian Natton and Dylan Nugent and Oisin Ryan getting on the score sheet. Towards the end Ciaran Sheerin and Calum Cogavin-Slevin came on and continued to threaten the Mount Temple goal. Tang ran out deserving winners and their Coaches Mike Tumelty and Noreen Horan can be very proud of them indeed. This was a total team effort with every player playing their part. So well done to everybody involved.
