TANG 1-10 BALLYMORE 0-5

Tang kicked off their 2016 Intermediate campaign with a hard but deserved win over a battling Ballymore outfit on saturday last in Moate. The match started at a fast pace and although Ballymore had chances which did not result in scores, it was Tang who opened the scoring through the lively John Rock. Martin Rock added another to make it 2pts before Ballymore added three on the trot to take the lead. This was short lived as Aidan Burke leveled again. Ballymore lost their midfielder Sam Wholley through a black card after blocking John Rock,s run. Soon after Tang's Willie Flanagan was black carded for a trip on John Gilligan. Darragh Burke replaced Willie and almost with his touch found Martin Rock with a great cross field pass. Martin slipped a neat pass to inrushing brother John Rock who beat the goalie with a low shot but was cleared off the line by a vigilant Ballymore cornerback. At the interval Tang took the slender one pt lead into the break with all to play for in the second half.

Tang took a strangle hold in midfield with the powerful Trevor English dominating ably supported by the hard working Niall Bannon. Tang stretched their lead to three with pts from Niall neary and Aidan Burke. Tang were dealt a severe blow ten mins in when Martin Rock received a second yellow and now were reduced to 14. Ballymore rallied but were unable to make inroads against a resolute Tang defence marshalled by Capt Robert English and Kieran Duncan. In the closing stages Tang created more chances and Conor Marlow and Niall Neary kicked pts before Aidan Burke put the icing on the cake with a well taken goal after superb pass from a rampant Robert English.

Tang will be happy to record a win in the first round and will benefit from a good hard game and now look forward to the next round v Shandonagh.
