Tang 1-6 St Lomans 0-7

Tang made the trip to Lakepoint on Friday last to play St Lomans. The pitch was in terrific conditions on a dry but very cold evening. The first half was entertaining with St Lomans taking an early lead but Tang did respond with Shane Coughlan very lively up front kicking two pts. Tang were guilty of missing a couple of scoring chances but did secure another pt before the break. Lomans did have a great goal chance but were denied by Robert English who saved superbly. The halftime score Lomans 5pts to Tangs 3pts.

Tang had a player black carded in the first few mins of the second half and Lomans added two pts to stretch their lead at this point. However Tang kept plugging away and were rewarded with two pts from frees by Niall Bannon. Martin Rock did scored a lovely pt with the outside of the boot and Tang just trailed by a soliatary pt. Tang pressed hard looking for a equaliser and a through long ball saw Shane Coughlan race on to the ball and lift it over the out rushing keeper soccer style and finish to the net for a neat goal. Lomans did try to salvage the match but with Kieran Duncan and John Rock marshalling the defence Tang held out for a surprise victory. Team Robert English, Eoghan Bannon, Kieran Duncan, Andrew Gill,Richard Laffen, John Rock, Ciaran Hanley, Darragh Burke, Niall Bannon, Tommy Lennon, Martin Rock, Jason Coughlan, Shane Coughlan, Aidan Burke, Eoin Coughlan

Tang were crowned county champions after a single pt victory over Milltownpass.

Tang 1-7 Milltownpass 0-9

Showing wonderful perseverance, Tang finally got their moment of glory as they captured the Peter Geraghty Memorial Cup for the first time in 28years with victory over Milltownpass, in the Westmeath Football Championship final in TEG Cusack Park on Saturday Nov13th.

It was just reward for all the years of hurt and near misses in semi-finals and finals. The previous year, Tang lost the decider to Moate All Whites but last Saturday they showed great character to eke out a narrow victory over an unlucky Milltownpass side.

This was a tight and tense affair and evenly contested final. Tang got the crucial goal in this close encounter, and it was Aidan Burke who showed great composure to find the net having raced through the centre in the 29th minute, leaving his side four pts to the good at half-time, 1-5 to 0-4.

When Milltownpass, who were chasing a first title since 1981, got on level terms in the 50th min through the impressive Finbarr Coyne, it seemed like they had clear momentum, but Tang were typically gritty and managed to get their noses in front, courtesy of a superbly pointed free by Adam Neary in the 58th minute. While Milltownpass threw the kitchen sink at them, there was no way through a tenacious Tang defence superbly marshalled by captain Kieran Duncan.
